  • 1 cup cornstarch Provides structure; opt for organic for a greener choice.
  • 1 cup warm water Activates ingredients; ensure it’s not too hot.

For the Aroma Enhancement

  • 15–30 drops essential oil Infuses suncatchers with fragrance; pick your favorite.

For the Color

  • mica powder or natural food coloring Adds color; beet juice can be a natural alternative.

Instructions

How to Make DIY Bioplastic Suncatchers

  • In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of cornstarch, mixing thoroughly until well blended.
  • Gradually pour in 1 cup of warm water. Stir slowly until the mixture becomes a thick paste.
  • Add 15–30 drops of your chosen essential oil to the mixture.
  • Sprinkle in your preferred mica powder or natural food coloring and stir until evenly distributed.
  • Carefully fill silicone molds with the prepared paste, packing it firmly.
  • Place the molds in a warm, dry area and let the suncatchers air dry for several hours.
  • Once fully dry, gently remove the suncatchers from the molds.

Notes

Experiment with dried flowers or leaves pressed into the mix for an added touch of nature. Store unused bioplastic suncatchers in an airtight container to maintain freshness for up to 2 weeks.
