Ingredients

For the Casserole

  • 1 lb Ground Beef can be substituted with ground turkey or chicken
  • 4 medium Potatoes sliced thinly
  • 1 medium Onion can be substituted with shallots or omitted
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder or fresh garlic
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder or fresh onions
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper to taste
  • 1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup can substitute with cream of chicken
  • ½ cup Milk any type of milk
  • 2 cups Cheddar Cheese shredded
  • 2 tbsp Butter optional
  • 1 tsp Paprika optional garnish

For Optional Additions

  • 1 cup Diced Bell Peppers optional
  • 1 cup Frozen Peas optional
  • 1 medium Jalapeños for a spicier twist

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Slice the potatoes thinly and set aside.
  • Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat for 5-7 minutes, adding the chopped onion until soft. Drain excess grease.
  • Season the beef mixture with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Layer the dish: sliced potatoes, seasoned beef mixture, and pour in the creamy soup mixture (soup mixed with milk).
  • Top with shredded cheddar cheese and drizzle melted butter over everything.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  • Let rest for 5-10 minutes before serving, garnishing with paprika if desired.

Notes

For best results, ensure even slicing of potatoes and adjust seasonings to your preference. Feel free to mix in your favorite vegetables or proteins.
