  • 1 teaspoon Salt Enhances overall flavor balance; adjust to taste.

For the Topping

  • 1 cup Semisweet Chocolate Chips Adds a smooth layer; can swap with milk or dark chocolate.
  • 1 cup Finely Chopped Almonds Contributes crunch; substitute with walnuts or pecans if preferred.

Instructions

How to Make Best Toffee Ever

  • Gather all your ingredients: unsalted butter, white sugar, salt, semisweet chocolate chips, and chopped almonds. Don’t forget a heavy-bottomed saucepan and a lined baking dish!
  • In your saucepan, combine the unsalted butter, white sugar, and salt. Cook over medium heat, gently stirring until the butter melts completely, which should take about 5 minutes.
  • Once the butter has melted, stop stirring and bring the mixture to a boil. Cook until it transforms into a dark amber color and reaches 285°F, stirring only 2-3 times throughout the cooking process (about 20-30 minutes).
  • Quickly pour the hot toffee into your prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly across the surface.
  • Immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee, allowing them to soften for 1-2 minutes before spreading them into an even layer.
  • Top off the melted chocolate with the finely chopped almonds, pressing them lightly into the surface.
  • Place your toffee in the refrigerator to set, which should take about 1 hour. Once set, lift it out using the parchment paper and break it into pieces.

Notes

Drizzle some melted chocolate on top for an elegant touch! Store toffee pieces in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain crispness for up to a week.
