Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk Plus 2 tablespoons for glaze
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Plus ½ teaspoon for glaze

Fruit

  • 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced Granny Smith or Honeycrisp

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). This helps the fritters bake evenly.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. This prevents the fritters from sticking.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
  • In another bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract together until smooth.
  • Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined with slight lumps.
  • Stir in the diced apples.
  • Drop heaping spoonfuls of batter onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each fritter.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • While the fritters are baking, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Once the fritters are done baking, let them cool slightly before drizzling the glaze over them.

Notes

Baked apple fritters are best enjoyed warm, served as is or dusted with extra powdered sugar. They can be stored in an airtight container for up to two days at room temperature, or refrigerated for about a week. Freeze for longer storage and reheat in the oven for a crisp texture.
